Mulan Might Not Premiere In China Due To Coronavirus
By Alleef Ashaari|March 2, 2020|0 Comment
Disney’s Mulan live-action movie remake is clearly targeting a huge chunk of its market in China, but it looks like that might not be a reality soon. Due to the increasing death toll caused by the Coronavirus Covid-19 outbreak, it seems highly likely that it will not be releasing in China after all.
Speaking with Independent UK, Comscore analyst Paul Dergarabedian said:
“It certainly has worldwide and global appeal, but there’s no denying that this is a very important film for the Chinese market.”
To date, the coronavirus has caused all 70,000 cinemas in China to close. The outbreak has now killed more than 2,800 people around the world, with more than 82,000 infected.
It’s unclear if Mulan will still be able to make a splash if it’s not released in China. The pressure on the international market will be much more than usual. Disney’s Mulan is slated to premiere on 27 March 2020. In the meantime, check out the latest trailer below.
