Disney Delays Pixar’s Soul & Raya And The Last Dragon

Pixar fans will have to be content watching Onward and older titles for now, as Disney has announced that both Soul and Raya And The Last Dragon have been delayed from their original premiere dates due to the COVID-19 Coronavirus pandemic (via Variety).

Pixar’s Soul was originally slated to arrive on 19 June 2020, but will now be premiering on 20 November 2020 instead. Meanwhile, Raya And The Last Dragon will be moving from its initial 25 November 2020 premiere to 12 March 2021, replacing an unannounced live-action Disney movie that was supposed to premiere on that date.

As Disney shifts the release date of Pixar’s Soul, the reality now is that there won’t be a single major motion picture release until the end of July 2020, which is slated to be Disney’s Mulan on 24 July 2020. It’s April now, so that’s a whopping three months without a new major movie, and during summer blockbuster season as well.

Directed by Pete Docter, Pixar’s Soul features a middle-school music teacher (voiced by Jamie Foxx) who dreams of being a jazz performer. However, he gets in an accident that causes his soul to be separated from his body and transported to the You Seminar. He then teams up with 22 (voiced by Tina Fey) to return his soul back to his body on Earth before it’s too late.

Walt Disney Animated Studios’ Raya And The Last Dragon will feature the voices of Awkwafina and Cassie Steele as the movie is set in a mysterious realm called Kumandra, where a warrior named Raya searches for the last dragon in the world. This one sounds particularly interesting, as it is inspired by Southeast Asian legends and folklore.
