Game Writer Details How He Created FFVII Remake Theme Song

To no one’s surprise, the Final Fantasy VII Remake has turned out to be one of 2020’s best games so far. The music of Final Fantasy VII Remake was particularly praised as well, including its new theme song “Hollow” (which you can listen to in the video below).

“Hollow” was written by Final Fantasy VII Remake story and scenario writer Kazushige Nojima, who recently detailed how the theme song was made in an interview with Japanese publication Famitsu. Nojima is a veteran of the franchise, having also written iconic music like Final Fantasy X‘s Suteki Da Ne and Final Fantasy X-2‘s 1000 Words.

Nojima said that the song was initially titled “Hollow Cloud”, as that was the first two words he wrote for the song. The team eventually omitted Cloud from the song’s name. He also said that his mission for the song was to “create lyrics that contain the worldview of the game”.

According to Nojima, “Hollow” is about “a man who has lost something important”, which obviously refers to Cloud himself. I won’t spoil it, but you’ll immediately understand if you’ve played Final Fantasy VII Remake or the original 1997 game.
