HBO’s Watchmen Season 1 Is Free To Watch This Weekend

All nine episodes of HBO’s Watchmen TV series’ first season is free to watch and stream this weekend starting today from 19 June 2020 until 21 June 2020.

In fact, you can already start watching it now, even if you live outside the United States (which is great, considering free stuff like this is sometimes limited to selected regions).

Watchmen Season 1 is currently available for non-subscribers to stream on the HBO official website here, as well as through Free on Demand services. The company’s press release (via Polygon) stated that the move was inspired by the ongoing #BlackLivesMatter protests:

“… an extension of the network’s content offering highlighting Black experiences, voices and storytellers.

HBO is proud to offer all nine episodes for free of this timely, poignant series that explores the legacy of systemic racism in America.”

It’s worth pointing out that 19 June 2020 is also the date of Juneteenth, an unofficial American holiday commemorating the gradual emancipation of enslaved Black people in the American Civil War and its aftermath.

HBO’s Watchmen by Damon Lindelof is a spiritual sequel to Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons’ legendary comic book of the same name, picking up decades after the events of the source material. It’s scary how relevant the themes of the series is in light of recent events, as the TV series also touched on police brutality, white supremacy, as well as the past and present plight of Black people.
