Taiwanese Horror Game Devotion Is On Sale Again… Sort Of

Taiwanese developer Red Candle Games has been through a lot with its first-person horror game, Devotion, which was removed by Valve from Steam in early 2019 due to assets that supposedly mocked Chinese President Xi Jinping. It’s been that way for more than a year, until now.

Devotion is finally available to purchase again, but weirdly enough, only for a week and it will also be limited to those living in Taiwan. From today until 15 June 2020, the developer is offering two different physical editions of Devotion via its online store.

The first physical edition for Devotion (priced at NT$980 or roughly RM140+) includes the game, a children’s book, a small book rack, stickers, and a flower-shaped bookmark resembling the origami tulips seen in the game. Meanwhile, the other physical edition (priced at NT$1200 or roughly RM170+) includes everything in the cheaper editions and an additional original soundtrack of the game.

In order to actually buy the game, you’ll need to sign up for a Red Candle Games account, which requires a valid Taiwanese address. The maximum number of copies that can be bought by one account is 10. This means that it might be possible for Taiwanese gamers who buy the game to sell them to people in other countries.

In a statement on Facebook, Red Candle said they have received inquiries from players all over the world and “will continue to try various possibilities”.

We (at Kakuchopurei) even listed Devotion as one of our best games of 2019, which just goes to show how much of a shame it is that it’s not available for more gamers around the world.
