Hololive VTubers Suspended After Calling Taiwan A Country
By Alleef Ashaari|September 29, 2020|0 Comment
Virtual YouTuber agency Cover Corp have announced that VTubers Akai Haato and Kiryu Coco will be suspended for three weeks from any livestreaming activities.
Why?
According to the official statement:
“It was determined that both had divulged confidential YouTube channel analytics information on their respective live streams, used said data for their own purposes and made statements that were insensitive to residents of certain regions.”
In addition to the above statement, Cover Corp also issued a separate statement on its bilibili account stating that the livestream does not represent the views of the company and that they “firmly supports the One-China principle.”
It looks like the only mistakes that these VTubers made were simply mentioning that Taiwan was a separate country from China, which is a sensitive and controversial idea in the latter. The aforementioned One-China movement supports the reunification of Taiwan and China as a single entity.
For more details and information on who or what the VTubers are all about, head on over here to our guide.
