There’s Going To Be A Shenmue Anime, For Some Reason

After so many long years of waiting for a sequel to Shenmue and Shenmue 2, many old-school gamers had their souls crushed with Shenmue 3. And it’s all from the same director too: Sega prodigy Yu Suzuki; make of that what you will.

But fret not: even with the third game undoing all that goodwill, the series is getting a second wind from an upcoming anime adaptation. Crunchyroll and Adult Swim will be collaborating on bringing a 13-episode series to life, with animation work from Telecom Animation Film (Tower of God, Lupin The Third: Part 5), directing from Chikara Sakurai, and executive production work from Yu Suzuki himself. There’s no set release date or window for the series yet though.

In the meantime, enjoy this visual teaser which may fill those burnt by Shenmue 3 with false some hope. I guess the word “perseverance” is paramount in Yu Suzuki’s dictionary.
