Xbox Series S Officially Announced, Coming This November [Update]

Update (9 September 2020):

Xbox has officially released the trailer for the Xbox Series S, confirming the specs and the release date. The console will launch on 10 November 2020.

Update (8 September 2020): A trailer and the specs for the Xbox Series S have been leaked.

Check them out below:

  • 60% smaller than the Xbox Series X.
  • Custom NVME SSD (512 GB).
  • All-digital (no disk tray).
  • 1440p up to 120 FPS.
  • Ray-Tracing support.
  • 4K media playback.
  • 4K game upscaling.
  • Variable-rate shading.
  • Variable refresh rate.
  • Ultra-low latency.

Update (8 September 2020): In response to today’s leaks, Microsoft has officially confirmed the Xbox Series S, along with its official price of US$299 (or roughly RM1245).

However, no new details were revealed (besides being dubbed the smallest Xbox ever), but the company did promise to announce more details “soon”.

It has long been rumoured that Microsoft is actually working on two Xbox consoles for next-gen, even though only one has been officially revealed so far; the Xbox Series X. Now, the design and price of the Xbox Series S have finally leaked.

According to Windows Central and BWW Media Group Executive Editor Brad Sams, the entry-level Xbox Series S will cost US$299 (or roughly only RM1245) at retail, with an additional US$25 per month Xbox All Access option.

Meanwhile, the more powerful Xbox Series X will reportedly cost US$499, with a US$35 per month Xbox All Access option. According to the same sources, both consoles will apparently launch on 10 November 2020.

The Xbox Series S looks small enough to fit inside an Xbox Series X (as shown by a Twitter user named WalkingCat). Sources claim it to be around 4TF RDNA2, making it roughly around as powerful as the Xbox One X, but geared more towards 1080p than 4K.

However, none of this have been confirmed by Microsoft themselves at the time of writing, so it’s better to take it all with a grain of salt for now. With the leaks already out in the wild, perhaps the official announcement will be arriving sooner rather than later.

In the meantime, enjoy some of these reactions to the leaked Xbox Series S.
