Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba: Mugen Train debuted in Japanese cinemas on 16 October 2020 last week, and it has since broken box office records in its first weekend. According to Nikkan Sports (via Crunchyroll), the anime movie is estimated to have garnered over 1.2 billion yen (or roughly RM47.1 million) on the first day of release.
In comparison, 2019’s Weathering with You opened to 1.5 billion yen (or roughly RM58.9 million) over the first weekend.
On Saturday, admissions for the Demon Slayer movie in Japan exceeded that of one million people, which sets a new one-day record for the Japanese box office for any film release.
