Demon Slayer Movie Breaks Records In Japan

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba: Mugen Train debuted in Japanese cinemas on 16 October 2020 last week, and it has since broken box office records in its first weekend. According to Nikkan Sports (via Crunchyroll), the anime movie is estimated to have garnered over 1.2 billion yen (or roughly RM47.1 million) on the first day of release.

In comparison, 2019’s Weathering with You opened to 1.5 billion yen (or roughly RM58.9 million) over the first weekend

On Saturday, admissions for the Demon Slayer movie in Japan exceeded that of one million people, which sets a new one-day record for the Japanese box office for any film release.

However, the full box office results for Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba: Mugen Train will be only available early this week. The movie opened in 403 cinemas across Japan, with 365 normal screens, and 38 IMAX screens.

The entire first season of the Demon Slayer anime is now streaming on Netflix Malaysia. Meanwhile, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba: Mugen Train is slated to premiere in Malaysian cinemas on the following dates:

  • Fan Screening: 5 December 2020 and 23 January 2021
  • General Screening Release Date: 4 February 2021
