Gamespot Hit By Layoffs
By Alleef Ashaari|October 9, 2020|0 Comment
Many employees of games website Gamespot have been laid off. These include the following:
According to GamesIndustry.biz, these layoffs are a result of the pending acquisition of CNET Media Group (the parent company of GameSpot, CNET, Metacritic, and Giant Bomb) by Red Ventures.
In an official statement, a Red Ventures representative said:
“As part of Red Ventures acquisition agreement with ViacomCBS, Red Ventures will retain a vast majority of CNET Media Group employees and assets under the Red Ventures business umbrella.
The deal has not closed and to protect the privacy of our employees we cannot release additional information at this time.”
Red Ventures began its acquisition of CNET Media Group from ViacomCBS for US$500 million last month. ViacomCBS originally acquired the websites for a whopping US$1.8 billion back in 2008.
We at Kakuchopurei wish all the best to all the former Gamespot employees affected by the layoffs. It’s always devastating when you’re unceremoniously fired from your job, especially with little to no notice like this.
