Demon Slayer Movie Is Still Number 1 In Japan Thanks To Recent US$24 Million Box Office Gross

It’s already the third weekend of Japan cinema, and the Demon Slayer movie is still the top dog.

Demon Slayer – Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Mugen Train has garnered over 2.4 billion yen (US$24 million) during the past weekend while it was airing in Japanese cinema. Let’s break it down how significant this is:

  • The movie opened on 16th October in Japan and earned 4,623,117,450 yen (US$43.85 million) on its three-day debut.
  • Its opening day garnered over 1,268,724,700 yen (US$12.03 million).
  • The film has sold over 11 million tickets to earn a cumulative 15,799,365,450 yen (US$150 million).
  • The film is now ranked at number 10 among all movies that ever opened in Japan, including foreign films like James Cameron’s Avatar. That movie was bumped to number 11 with its 15.6 billion yen gross, which is about US$148 million by today’s conversion.

All in all, a good day for Kimetsu no Yaiba and shonen action fans. Stay tuned for our review of the movie in the near future when cinemas in Malaysia open up. Eventually.
