PS5 Games Will Be Region-Free, Support PS Now

Sony has published what they’re calling the “ultimate” FAQ for the PS5, which reveals a few new details about the upcoming next-gen console. According to PlayStation Blog, PS5 games will be region-free.

What that means is that even if you buy PS5 games from other countries, they will still be playable on your PS5, wherever you may live. For instance, Japanese games with work with PS5s in the US, and vice versa. However, keep in mind that while games are region-free, the DLC will likely be region-locked, just like on the PS4.

In addition, the PS5 will also support Sony’s PlayStation Now cloud gaming service. PS Now lets players download and stream certain PS4 games, PS3 and PS2 games. However, the service itself is only available in several selected countries like the US.

The “ultimate” FAQ also mentions a list of first-party and third-party PS5 games that will be available at launch. Unfortunately, all of that doesn’t make a difference for gamers in Southeast Asia, who (at the time of writing) still have no idea when the PS5 is launching in the region (with the exception of Singapore, of course).
