Sega Bids Farewell To Arcades
By Alleef Ashaari|November 6, 2020|0 Comment
Sega has announced that they are selling their historic and legendary arcade business to Japanese company Genda.
Sega parent company Sega Sammy revealed that they have decided to sell 85.1 percent of their shares in Sega Entertainment, which is the group’s arcade and amusement centre business in Japan.
Fortunately for fans of Sega and its many iconic franchises like Sonic The Hedgehog and Total War, this deal does not actually impact its other video game divisions.
Why did they sell the arcade business? According to Sega Sammy, the reason is due to the negative impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, which contributed to the decline of arcades. Still, Sega will continue manufacturing arcade machines for use with other companies’ arcades.
Let’s all make a toast to the legendary Sega arcades of yesteryears; a hallmark of gaming history.
