KKP Best Of 2020: Game #19

#19. Assassin’s Creed Valhalla (PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series, PC)

While Assassin’s Creed Valhalla didn’t exactly reinvent or innovate the open-world genre, it’s definitely the best out of the three The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt clones by Ubisoft so far (including 2017’s Assassin’s Creed Origins and 2018’s Assassin’s Creed Odyssey).

Firstly, one of the biggest and most welcome gameplay changes is that traditional side quests are no more. When you open the map, the only things you’ll see at first are a bunch of dots coloured yellow, blue, or white. Some of these are World Events, which are often more interesting that just random fetch quests.

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla also features other improvements like more satisfying melee combat, smarter exploration in general, and a narrative that’s pretty decent, especially for history buffs.

Despite being plagued by bugs at launch (including some game-breaking ones), the game is pretty good, and you’ll squeeze a lot of hours from it for sure. Plus, you get to live out your fantasy of being a Viking; raiding and pillaging old England.
