Ruggero Deodato’s Cannibal Trilogy Will Get A Video Game Entry Called Borneo: A Jungle Nightmare

Welp, add another game to the ever-growing “banned in Malaysia” list.

Apparently, there’s going to be a video game entry to the infamous Cannibal film trilogy, the masterclass shock found footage horror and gore-filled work of famous Italian director Ruggero Deodato. Its title? Borneo: A Jungle Nightmare, an “original chapter in the Cannibal cinematic line”.

From the looks of the trailer, the game will be a graphic adventure game filled with a lot of horrifying depictions of people being eaten and the aftermath. And half of it taking place in the city with allusions to former tribesfolk adjusting to inner-city life. Probably. Deodato’s shockfest films aren’t exactly subtle. Go judge it for yourself.

I’ll say this: as a fellow Sarawakian who has resided in longhouses and verandahs, as well as experienced the Sarawakian forest backs (is that the word?) I’m morbidly curious as to how Deodato’s associates and developer Fantastico Studio will portray tribe life and East Malaysia. It’s going to be tasteless and probably offensive, like how most of Deodato’s work was back in the day. So I’m willing to see how far it pushes the envelope in terms of its schlockiness.

Borneo: A Jungle Nightmare will be out in Summer 2021 for PS5, Xbox Series, PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch(?), PC via Steam, and Mac.
