Double Fine, the game development company run by Tim Schafer that’s partnered with Xbox, just released a 9-minute video about the current state of its upcoming game Psychonauts 2. Long story short, it’s coming out soon.

How soon? Try 2021. Schafer explained that “all the levels are in the game” and the devs will be finishing and polishing it after they’re back from the holidays. The team has been making the most out of the “work-from-home” situation, with Schafer being an internal game streamer as he’s playing each build while other members of the team watch and comment on it. Also, the team won’t be crunching on the game, unlike its prequel.

“2020 was a dang strange time but Psychonauts 2 is doing well and will release next year.”

Apart from tweaks & polishing, the team will be working on cutscenes, end credits, front-end menu, and a post-game epilogue where players can explore the world after completing the story. So yeah, 2021 is off to a good start for 3D platforming fans.
