Tom Holland Shatters Hopes Of A Spider-Man Reunion

After the confirmation of Jamie Foxx’s Electro, Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange and Alfred Molina’s Doctor Octopus in the untitled sequel to 2019’s Spider-Man Far From Home, rumours of Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield reprising their roles as Spider-Man have surfaced from time to time since last year.

A Sony Pictures representative told ET Canada in 2020 that these two castings are unconfirmed, and now Spider-Man 3 lead actor Tom Holland himself has denied the rumours in a new interview with Esquire published earlier today.

In the interview, Holland confirmed that Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield won’t be appearing in the untitled Spider-Man 3 movie.

He said:

“No, no, they will not be appearing in this film.

Unless they have hidden the most massive piece of information from me, which I think is too big of a secret for them to keep from me.

But as of yet, no.

It’ll be a continuation of the Spider-Man movies that we’ve been making.”

However, in the same interview, he also admits that Marvel Studios sometimes keeps certain secrets from him to avoid him from spoiling the movie, as he is notorious for spilling the beans in the past.

He added:

“They do it all the time.

In [Endgame], Robert Downey Jr.’s funeral scene, for the longest time I was under the impression that it was a wedding.

I’m 100 percent sure that they’re still tricking me.”

Directed by Jon Watts (who also directed the 2017’s Spider-Man Homecoming and 2019’s Spider-Man Far From Home), the untitled Spider-Man 3 movie is still filming and in production, but it is slated to premiere on 17 December 2021 later this year.

In the meantime, check out these leaked set photos of the upcoming movie, which reveals an updated suit for the wall-crawler and a unique Christmas setting. Maybe they’ll tide you over until we eventually receive a trailer in the future.
