Nomadland Wins Best Movie For Oscars 2021

Nomadland, a drama starring Frances Mcdormand, won the Best Picture award for this year’s Academy Awards Oscar show. The film that’s about a woman who lives in a van, has beaten other shows in the Best Picture award such as The Father, Judas and the Black Messiah, Mank, Minari, Promising Young Woman, Sound of Metal, and The Trial of the Chicago 7.

Other Oscar 2021 “highlights” include:

  • Colette won Best Documentary (Short Subject), which was actually a tie-in for Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond. That game was made by Respawn, so that means the devs are the first-ever Oscar-winning game developer in the truest sense.
  • Chloe Zhao wins best director for Nomadland, filling the obligatory ethnic category win for the organizers of the Academy Awards. Jesting aside, it was either Lee Isaac Chung (Minari) or Thomas Vinterberg (Another Round) who should have won.
  • Irish animated film Wolfwalkers was clearly robbed of an Oscar 2021 win as it was going against the likes of Disney/Pixar’s Soul, Onward, and a few others that were fun films but weren’t Oscar material. So naturally, it was either the Disney one about souls in the afterlife or the Disney one with fantasy creatures and magic.
  • To be fair, Soul did deserve its Best Score win.
  • Weird documentary film My Octopus Teacher won the best documentary feature, despite the category filled with more important and genre-defining ones like Collective, The Painter and the Thief, and Dick Johnson is Dead.
  • Tyler Perry receives the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award for creating a safe work environment and commitment to social justice issues.
  • Bryan Cranston applauding 70 vaccinated frontline workers working at the Dolby Theatre tonight.
