Warner To Partner With Local Media Conglomerate To Bring HBO Max To Malaysia

Last week, Warner Media announced that Amit Malhotra will join the company later this month as Managing Director for HBO Max in Southeast Asia and India. What this meant is that HBO Max will be launching in eight territories across Southeast Asia, including Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam.

Now, a new report via The New Straits Times is claiming that Warner Media might turn to Media Prima Bhd (MPB) to feature local content on HBO Max Malaysia. With Media Prime already spearheading Disney+ Hotstar Malaysia for local content, this would translate to them bolstering their position as an earnings leader in the country.

Via Disney+ Hotstar Malaysia, Media Prime could already offer content from Malaysian studios such as Skop Productions, Revolution Media Films, Primeworks Studios, WAU Animation, Act 2 Pictures, Les’ Copaque Production, Red Films and more. These multi-year agreements mean that Disney+ Hotstar is the exclusive home to some of Malaysia’s most anticipated blockbusters, which will skip theatres and launch straight on the streaming service.

These include films such as J2: J Retribusi, the explosive action-packed sequel to the blockbuster J Revolusi, Zombitopia, and Ada Hantu. Ejen Ali The Movie 2 will also stream exclusively on Disney+ Hotstar after its theatrical debut. A similar deal could be possible for HBO Max Malaysia.

However, there is no release date or release window yet for HBO Max Malaysia. In the meantime, HBO GO offers content from Warner Media. Stay tuned on Kakuchopurei for more latest news.
