Loki Episode 5 Had A Hidden Chris Hemsworth Cameo

Last week’s Loki Episode 5 was the biggest episode yet in terms of featuring the most number of easter eggs yet, probably even in any of the Marvel Disney+ Hotstar shows to date. However, there was one easter egg that might have had an extra layer of easter egginess to it.

If you’ve read my breakdown of Loki Episode 5, you’ll probably know that the episode featured an unexpected cameo from Throg or Frog Thor. In the comics, Throg was originally a human named Simon Walterson who was cursed and turned into a frog named Puddlegulp. He later found himself worthy of lifting Mjolnir and the rest is history.

However, what we didn’t know is that Thor actor Chris Hemsworth himself voiced the grunting of the Throg in the episode. According to Loki series director Kate Herron (via an interview with For All Nerds), Hemsworth even actually recorded fresh audio for the cameo. That’s amazing, considering that it’s just a bunch of grunts and groans.

Herron said:

“Throg, obviously, getting him in. We recorded Chris Hemsworth for that by the way… that’s like a whole new recording, not recycled. He recorded that.”

Courtesy of Disney+ Hotstar Malaysia, I was also lucky enough to be the only Malaysian media to participate in a roundtable interview with Loki Costume Designer Christine Wada and Loki Production Designer Kasra Farahani. These interviews have been edited for clarity.
