Ubisoft Singapore Under Investigation For Alleged Sexual Harassment & Workplace Discrimination

Ubisoft just can’t catch a break, eh?

Ubisoft Singapore, the division of the French video game company in charge of the naval bits of Assassin’s Creed, the French DLC bits of Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla, and the yet-to-be-out Skull & Bones, is being investigated by the Singapore Tripartite Alliance for Fair and Progressive Employment Practices (TAFEP). This is due to anonymous feedback received on 23rd July over allegations of sexual harassment and workplace discrimination (via Straits Times).

The feedback came after a detailed investigation of Ubisoft Singapore was conducted that reported about the aforementioned sexual harassment & workplace abuse, which all stemmed from the leadership of ex-Ubisoft Singapore managing director Hugues Ricour. He was reassigned to production intelligence director at Ubisoft’s Montreuil HQ.

If Ubisoft Singapore is found guilty, the company can be barred from applying for new work passes for foreign staff and renewing existing ones for up to 24 months.

Ubisoft Singapore managing director Darryl Long said that the company does not tolerate harassment, with Ubisoft hiring a third-party agency to look into the complaints.

“I understand that Ubisoft Singapore has been mentioned in the news lately… I acknowledge that the studio has seen some challenges over the past decade and there is still work to be done about our studio culture.

It’s very important that we can talk about these things and that we acknowledge what’s going on in our industry right now. We need to start to change the way we are perceived and the way we act internally as well.”
