The Last Of Us Part 2 Multiplayer Is In the Works, Confirms Naughty Dog

Since launching in June 2020, there have been rumours that strongly indicate Naughty Dog is developing The Last Of Us Part 2 multiplayer. More than a year after the game’s release coinciding with The Last Of Us Day 2021, the developer has finally confirmed that they’re “working on it” and is actively hiring for the project.

In a special The Last Of Us Day community update earlier today, Naughty Dog stated:

In short, we’re working on it – we see the community comments as many of you clamor for multiplayer and want updates.

For now, we’ll say that we love what the team is developing and want to give them time to build out their ambitious project, we’ll reveal more when it’s ready!

To that end, we’ve been busy growing our team inside the kennel since The Last of Us Part II launched and are currently in full swing of hiring for MP-related positions (hint hint), so if you or somebody you know qualifies for anything you see on our jobs page, apply!

As recently as August 2021, there were leaked assets from The Last Of Us Part 2 multiplayer. Previously, the last official update we received for a multiplayer of any kind was two years ago back in September 2019 in a tweet:

However, it remains when exactly we’ll be getting a The Last Of Us Part 2 multiplayer but it seems like it’ll be a while yet before we hear anything else about this project. Let’s hope that it’s worth the wait.

The Last Of Us Part 2 is out now for the PS4 and PS5. In the meantime, check out my full spoiler-free review of the game here, or head on over here for a guide and tips for the game. If you’ve already played the game, then I suggest checking out my 4000-word spoilerific article on why I believe the hate for the game isn’t justified.
