Top Swedish Games Publisher Embroiled In Alleged Workplace Discrimination

Paradox Interactive joins the likes of Blizzard as a new report has revealed that the company is fostering a toxic workplace environment with gender discrimination and bullying.

Swedish publication Breakit (via GamesIndustry.biz) reported on a union-led employee survey conducted in August 2021. Shockingly, they discovered that almost half of the 133 staff who participated have previously experienced “mistreatment” while working at Paradox.

According to the report, the survey results reveal that the problems include “bullying and gender discrimination”, and that it’s “worst for women”. Over 69 percent of women and 33 percent of men at the company confirmed that they had experienced abuse and harassment.

The same report also reveals a “culture of silence” at the company. Currently, Paradox Interactive employs approximately 400 people.

The report’s conclusion reads:

“Offensive treatment is a systematic and far too common problem at Paradox.”

In response to the report, Paradox is “now in the process of bringing in an external, neutral company to conduct a thorough review of our process and a comprehensive employee survey.”

Paradox Interactive is best known for developing strategy games franchises like Crusader Kings, Europa Universalis, Victoria and more. It remains to be seen how this will affect the company, and those who work there, moving forward.
