PlayStation Hit By Gender Discrimination Lawsuit From Former Employee

Sony Interactive Entertainment and PlayStation are facing a lawsuit by a former employee. As reported by Axios, a former PlayStation IT security risk analyst named Emma Majo is suing the company for alleged pay disparity, wrongful termination, and gender-based discrimination.

In the lawsuit, Emma Majo claimed that women working at PlayStation were paid less than male employees with the same jobs and responsibilities, as well as that they were not given promotions and equal compensation. She further alleges that Sony “tolerates and cultivates a work environment that discriminates against female employees”.

The wrongful termination happened after she claimed that she reported the discrimination to Sony with a signed statement in 2021. After that, the company fired her on the grounds of a department being eliminated, even though she said that she wasn’t even part of that aforementioned department.

In her career dating from 2015, Majo claims to have seen bias against women, both cis and trans. She remained stuck in the same position for six years and she alleges that male supervisors, like security director Yuu Sugita, would decline to speak with women if the door is closed. If a male employee is in the same room, they would only speak with him.

At the time of writing, Sony has yet to issue an official statement on the matter. This comes less than a week after Sony spoke out against sexual misconduct and toxic work environments at Activision Blizzard.
