Developer Thunder Lotus has announced that its gorgeous 2D adventure simulation title on a boat, Spiritfarer, has sold a million copies.

This generally makes the indie game an undeniable success. To celebrate this moment, the devs are releasing the Farewell Edition of the game, closing the book on Spiritfarer. The game is also getting new content like two new passengers, Jackie and Daria, and a new island.

Here’s the official presser that puts the cap on the title from creative director Nicolas Guérin:

“All good things must come to an end. And Spiritfarer has been especially good for Thunder Lotus! For our work to be welcomed into the lives of so many people is especially gratifying, particularly given how much heart we tried to invest in the game.

It was a challenging project, but telling these stories truly helped us grow as developers. We’d like to offer our heartfelt thanks to all our fans for their support and for helping us reach this special milestone!”

Spiritfarer is out now for PC, Nintendo Switch, PS4, and Xbox One. It’s praised for its cozy simulation aspects and its tasteful handling of death and its inevitability, using a comforting aesthetic and some Metroidvania aspects. Check out our glowing review of the game here.
